Melukote is located in the Mandya district of Karnataka. It is considered a highly sacred place in South India. It is in the Pandavapura taluk and famous for the Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple. It is believed that the saint Ramanuja stayed here for 12 years and it thus became a prominent location for Brahmins. Melkote is the heartland of Mandyam Iyengars(Hindu Brahmins) - so you can smell and taste Puliyogare (Tamarind Rice) and Sweet Pongal (A sweet prepared with Rice ) everywhere. Many Aalamane Bella (Sugar houses that make jaggery) on the roadside can be found, which are educational and refreshing.

Sree Cheluvanarayanaswamy Temple
Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple is situated in Mandya district of Karnataka state. The temple, also known as Thirunarayanapura, is built on rocky hills called Yadugiri or Yadavagiri overlooking the Kaveri valley. Lord Vishnu is worshipped in different forms across the world and Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple is one of the many temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple is over 1000 years old. The engravings on the temple mention the historical evidence of the temple.
Yoganarasimhaswamy Temple
Yoga Narasimha Swamy Temple is dedicated to Lord Yoganarasimha. Built on the Yadugiri rock, the temple overlooks the town of Melukote. The beautifully carved idol of Lord Yoganarasimha has been enshrined at the temple.It is believed that the deity was installed in the temple by Prahlada. According to legends associated with the temple, Lord Rama, Krishna and Balarama worshipped the deity at the temple in different time zones.
Akka Tangi Kola (Main Kalyani)
Akka Tangi Kola means Elder Sister, Younger Sister ponds These beautiful twin tanks are described as sister’s ponds and according to traditional accounts, where one of the sisters was very eager to create the pond whereas the other agreed to join her hesitatingly. That’s why one of the water is crystal clear and very sweet to drink whereas the other pond is somewhat slushy and very salty. The pond is filled with fishes and small turtles.
Raya Gopura
The Rayagopura is a famous incomplete temple probably built during the Vijaynagar empire. The Temple has 4 raised pillars with intricate carvings but no gopuram. It is said to have been built overnight, but with the huge pillars and stones were used for construction.
