SKANDAGIRI-KAIVARA WEEKENDS
Skandagiri, also known as Kalwarbetta or Kalavara Durga, which overlooks Nandi Hills is a mountain fortress situated approximately 62 km from Bangalore city. The peak is located at an altitude of 1450 meters. For trekkers, treks start from Papagni Temple (that houses the idols of Goddess Parvati and several local deities) near the village of Kalwara. The initial couple of minutes is a semi-dry trail but soon after the lush greenery begins. There are old ruins of the fortress of Tipu Sultan and ancient fort ruins that add a haunting charm to the trek. After walking through some dense foliage, you will reach the fortress, but the experience has just begun. There are six ruined fortresses which lead to the ancient temple at the top. You can see the Kalwarbettar fortress in front of you amid your trail. The view all through is sublime and along the trail.

Skandagiri Hills is a trekking destination close to Bangalore and one can find the best place of breathtaking scenery with stress free attractions.The entire trail is filled with thick tall grass on both sides.
Papagni Temple
"Papagni mutt" is the ancient institution located in Skandagiri hills, which is of an extraordinary kind. The devotees say that they have experienced divine vibrations while sitting on meditation inside temple premises. There will be special poojas to diety on Saturdays. There are some ancient stone sculptures of deities near the base camp across the temple.
Kaiwara Thathayya Meditation Cave
Kaiwara is a town in Chintamani Taluk of Chikkaballapur district in Karnataka state, Kaiwara has an ashram dedicated to the Thatayya that has become a pilgrimage and a tourist destination because of the cave in which Thatayya meditated 'Gavi" and attained the supreme spiritual enlightenment. The ashram, the cave, Amara Narayanaswamy temple, Vaikunta (temple) by the side of the cave, and the hillock (on which Bheema is supposed to have killed the Bakasura).
Kailasagiri Cave Temple
The other attraction of Chintamani is the temple at Kailasagiri. Kailasagiri cave temples of Lord Shiva and Ambaji Durga cave temple on a rock hill top are located about 7 km from Kaiwara, which are being restored. The magnitude of the cave and the efforts made to construct the temple are impressive.
Amaranarayana Temple
There is an Ashram dedicated to Thatayya. Kaivara has become a pilgrimage and a tourist place because of the cave in which Thatayya meditated and attained the supreme spiritual enlightenment. The Ashram, the cave, Amara Narayanaswamy temple, Vaikunta (temple) by the side of the cave and the hillock (on which Bheema is supposed to have killed the Bakasura).
Bheemalingeswara Temple
This is a pilgrimage center for people leaning towards philosophical life; because there is a samadhi (now temple) of a famous Kalagnani (predictor of the future of the world and human beings) by name Sri Yogi Narayana Yathindra, popularly called as Kaiwara Thatha or Thathagari. Yogi means a saint. The temple is managed by a trust which provides free boarding (in the name of prasada) and low cost decent accommodation to the visitors.
