Nandi Hills is located in Chikkaballapur district which is about 60kms (an hour's ride) from Bangalore city. During the Chola period, Nandi Hills was called Anandagiri, meaning The Hill of Happiness. It is also perhaps called Nandi Hills because the hills resemble a sleeping bull. Another theory holds that the hill gets its name from an ancient, 1300-year-old Dravidian-style Nandi temple situated on this hill.Nandi Hills also called Nandi Durga is arguably the most popular weekend destination for the city crowd of Bengaluru. The rivers North Palar, South Pennar, Chitravathi, Arkavathi and Papaghni take their birth at Nandi Hills.

Tipu’s Drop

Tippu Fort
Tippu's Summer Residence, This palace was initiated by Haidar Ali and completed by Tipu Sultan and was used by the latter as his summer resort. It was also named by him as the Tashk-e-Jannat, meaning the envy of heaven. The construction is mainly of wood and displays brilliantly carved arches and pillars along with the beautifully painted walls and ceilings.
Nandeeswara temple
While it is enticing to the religiously inclined visitors, the ancient and majestic bhoga Nandeeshwara temple is also liked by other genre of tourists. It is located 15 km away from the Nandi Hills (at its base) and has roots in the 9th century AD. The Bhoga Nandeeshwara temple is now under the Archaeological Society of India. Inside the main temple, weddings still take place.
