Gandikota is a village and historical fort on the right bank of the Penna river, 15 km from Jammalamadugu in Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh. The fort was the center of power for various dynasties, such as the Kalyani Chalukyas, Pemmasani Nayakas, and the Golconda Sultanate. Gandikota was the capital of Pemmasani Nayakas for more than 300 years. Pemmasani Ramalinga Nayaka constructed the huge fort at Gandikota with 101 towers replacing the previous sand fort constructed by Kaka Raja, Vassals of Kalyani Chalukya rulers. Various additions of Islamic architecture were made during subsequent Muslim rule.

Gandikota Fort

Belum Caves
Belum Caves derives its name from "Belum" Sanskrit word for caves. In Telugu language, it is called Belum Guhalu. Belum Caves has a length of 3229 meters, making it the second largest natural caves in the Indian Subcontinent. Belum Caves have long passages, spacious chambers, freshwater galleries and siphons. The cave is the second natural cave only after Krem Liat Prah caves in Meghalaya. These caves are renowned for their speleothem structures, such as stalactite and stalagmite formations with long passages, narrow galleries, this cave is more than a thousand year old, and was formed by constant flow of underground water over a period of time. The entrance of the cave called Pataalaganga is the deepest point of the cave with 46 m of depth, nearly 151 ft.

Madhavaraya Temple
Madhavaraya temple dedicated to lord vishnu is in the west side of the village. It can be seen from a distance. There are small statues and sculptures of Hindu Gods carved over the Gopuram and walls of the temple. Here comes the grandiosity but its derelict. It looks like a monument that has been preserving an odyssey of Journey in its every brick and sculpture. Each sleight carving begets the magnitude of the social and cultural aspect of the lost kingdom. The dreams of the king, his realm, the people and the lost future are preserved in granite.

Ranganathaswamy Temple
The temple is made up of red granite. There is no statue inside but remnants of the temple are ideal for photographers. Also there are Mantapas and pillars along the perimeter of the temple. Surrounded by a series of Mantapas and stone pillars, the temple would cue you a movie scene. It is grand; it is spectacular; unlike other temples, the serenity has been prevailing here for centuries. there is something mystical which would keep you engaged for hours.

Horseley hills
Horsley Hills refers to a hill station that is the perfect amalgam of the charms of Andhra Pradesh and the beauty of the hills. It is thus often called the Ooty of Andhra. The distance from Bengaluru to Gandikota is roughly 280 Km, and it takes 6-7 hours to reach Gandikota. The road condition is good with some 15 Km of a rough patch; We suggest you take the Bangalore-Hyderabad highway and take the right turn after crossing the Lepakshi road intersection.
