Coorg lies 1525m above sea level in the Western Ghats. It is one of the most well-known hill stations in Karnataka, and a preferred summer retreat of the south. Referred to as ‘the Scotland of India’, beyond its natural landscape, it is also known for its coffee. Coorg offers trekking and camping options, white water rafting and a charming Namdroling Tibetan settlement to explore. It is also famous for the costliest coffee in the world!

Abbey Falls
Distance from Madikeri : 8kms, Travel Time : 15min. One of the most famous waterfalls in South India, Abbey Falls cascades from a height of 70 feet into a mighty and thunderous splash. Named by the British as Jessy Waterfalls in the memory of Madikeri first British Captain chaplain’s daughter, today Abbey falls is one of the best places to visit in Coorg. Numerous small streams and ample rainfall combine to form the Abbey Waterfalls which further flows to unite with the River Kaveri. A hanging bridge has been built across the gorge here, from where you can get a beautiful view of the falls. A walk across the bridge and you’ll see a Kali Mata temple a holy place for pilgrims.

Bhagamandala , Talacauvery & Brahmagir
Talacauvery in English is the place that is generally considered to be the source of the river Kaveri and a holy place for many Hindus : Distance from Madikeri : 36kms, Travel Time : 1hr 30min. At the convergence of the rivers Cauvery, the underground Sujyothi and the Kanike, the Bhangandeshwara temple here has a distinct Kerala touch. Because of the three rivers, it is also called Triveni Sangama. The serene temple has intricate carvings and a copper roof. The source of this long river, which passes through two states, is on the top of the hill called Brahmagiri. It is 1535 metres above sea level. Steps lead up to the Brahmagiri peak, from where a panoramic view of Kodagu meets the visitor.

Bailkuppe : Golden Temple (Buddhist temple)
Distance from Madikeri : 40kms, Travel Time : 1hr 00min, Bailkuppe near Kushalnagar is one of the largest Tibetan settlements in south India. Most notable among them are the large educational monastic institution Sera, the smaller Tashilunpo monastery and Namdroling monastery .The Mahayana Buddhist University is at Sera. There are nearly 7,000+ monks and nuns. The gold-coated Buddhist statues in the monastery are imposing and unique, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the Tibetans.

Cauvery Nisargadhama
Distance from Madikeri : 27.4kms, Travel Time : 38min. Kaveri Nisargadhama (NIsargadhama means "Island" in local language. It is an Island in the middle of River Cauvery, a delta feature which is called an island by local people, formed by river Kaveri near Kushalnagar in the district of Kodagu, Karnataka. A great place to cuddle up for the night. This 2.5 sq. km island is in the middle of the River Cauvery.

Dubare - Elephant Camp
Distance from Madikeri : 28.3kms, Travel Time : 58min: Dubare - 18 kms from kushalnagar is a natural island . Situated on the banks of River Cauvery , sightings of wild Elephants are regular and so is spotting the sambhar and the spotted deer. The fun part is that one gets to scrub the domesticated elephants and feed them too apart from elephant ride, (all under the supervision of a mahout ) There is also Water rafting in a small stream which has no hus-gush water flow. Visitors also get to notice many crocodiles in the waters of River Cauvery at Dubare.

Omkareshwara Temple
Distance from Madikeri : 1kms, Travel Time : 5min: Omkareshwara temple was built in 1820 by King Lingarajendra II as an act of penance. The temple was built in the Muhammadan style of architecture consisting of a dome in the center. Its four corners are surrounded by four turrets. Near the entrance door of the temple, a linga has been installed. Prominent Hindu temple to the god Shiva with 4 minarets, a dome & a fish-filled pond.

Raja Seat
Distance from Madikeri : 1.5kms, Travel Time : 08min: One of the popular tourist spots, Raja seat literally means “Seat of the Kings”. Located in the town of Madikeri, it is a beautiful place, Raja's Seat is a seasonal garden of flowers and artificial fountains. It is one of the most important tourist spots in Madikeri of Coorg District.

Mallalli Water Falls
Distance from Madikeri : 1.5kms, Travel Time : 08min: Mallalli Falls is situated in the northern region of Kodagu District, Karnataka. The Kumaradhara River is the main watercourse for this waterfall. The Kumaradhara later flows through Kukke Subrahmanya and merges with the Netravati River at Uppinangadi, which then empties into the Arabian Sea at Mangalore.

Mandalpatti
Distance from Madikeri : 11.kms, Travel Time : 25min: Mandalpatti, situated at an altitude of around 4050 feet, is a hilltop 18 Kms from the town of Madikeri in Karnataka and is a part of Pushpagiri reserve forest. Mandalpatti has become a famous four-by-four Jeep drive spot to the top. It is one of the favourite drives for road trips from Bangalore. In the local language, Mandalpatti is also known as ‘Mugilu-Peth’ or ‘Mugilu-Pete’ which means Market of Cloud (Mist).

River Rafting

THE IDEAL PLAN
Start from Bangalore City at around 5am-7am and head straight to Badadi 1 hr 11 min (34.9kms) recommended breakfast joint is Sree Renukambha Bidadi Thatte idli along Mysore Rd, Near Bidadi police Station. After your breakfast head to Coorg, There are mainly 2 routes to reach Coorg. Both routes are the same till Mysore, after which you can either drive via Kushalnagar or via Nagarhole and Gonikoppal. via Kushalnagar : Drive down Bangalore to Bidadi, Ramanagar, Maddur, Mandya, Srirangapatna, Hunsur, Somwarpet, bailukuppe to Madikeri. While you can take any of the two routes, we recommend Route 1 Via NH 75. The road conditions are excellent and the time taken is less. via Nagarhole : If you are an adventurous person then you can take this route but start from Bangalore by the earliest, drive towards Bidadi, Ramanagar, Maddur, Mandya, Srirangapatna, Hunsur, Nagarhole route. Park your car at the entrance of the Nagarhole Forest and Don't get out of the Car unless it's necessary. The forest gates open at 6 AM with a high chance to spot wild animals since you could be the first person to drive through. It is better to avoid this route at night. From Nagarhole you can go towards Kutta, Gonikoppa & Medikeri. Lunch recommended Between Kushalnagar - Gonikoppa at BANANA LEAF RESTAURANT
