Barachukki and Gaganachukki are two waterfalls situated near the island town of Shivanasamudra in the Mandya district of Karnataka. The waterfalls are created by river Cauvery that runs down a 75 metre gorge before it divides into two branches that flow around the island of Shivanasamudra. The Biligirirangana Hills, also known as BR Hills, is a lofty hill range in Karnataka that is known for its diverse species of flora and fauna. The Biligirirangana Hills serves as a unique bio-geographic link between the Eastern Ghats and the Western Ghats that facilitates the gene flow between the population species inhabiting both the mountain ranges. Shivanasamudra (Gagana Chukki and Bhara Chukki)
Shivanasamudra consists of two waterfalls- Gagana Chukki and Bhara Chukki. The view points to observe Gagana Chukki and Bhara Chukki are about 15 kms apart. Well maintained viewing deck is available to witness Gagana Chukki and Bharachukki waterfalls. River water dropping off tall rock cliffs, with lush green forests all around ensures a mesmerizing view and photographer’s delight. We suggest travelers not to swim at Gagana Chukki due to the currents here are quite strong and the gorge is quite deep. So, swimming is not permitted here. But Bhara Chukki has a section of waterfall where the water flows less in volume and an ideal spot to play and enjoy a bath under the waterfall in this area.
